Artist Biography and Resume
Jillian Zausmer Goldberg
Born and raised in Cape Town South Africa, Jillian attended the Michaelis School of Art at the University of Cape Town. She studied art education under Stephen DeVilliers and taught private and public school art for children for over thirty years. Jillian founded the Gifted and Talented Development Center of Charlotte, North Carolina in 1984. Through innovative summer camps, art schools and outbound arts programming in the Charlotte and Triangle NC areas, the Center served thousands of children, many of whom returned to teach in the programs as adults in later years. Jillian brought the internationally renowned Monart Drawing method to North Carolina, operating seven licensed Monart schools in Charlotte and the Triangle. She is also a certified Monart Draw and Learn teacher trainer and has conducted professional development workshops for county school systems in five states.
In recent years Jillian has returned to painting and drawing, studying acrylic paints and mixed media. Her childhood memories of growing up in a small fishing village on the South African Cape coast, inform her color choices and compositions. Her nostalgia for a land of breathtaking natural beauty, where oceans, cliffs, soaring mountains, lush valleys and endless, remote deserts are the backdrop to everyday life, prove stronger as the years go by.
In Cary, North Carolina, where she and her husband now live, she is active in several local arts organizations and groups, including the Fine Arts League of Cary, Friends of the Page Walker, Visual Arts Exchange of Raleigh and is a founding member of the ChromaZones Abstract Expressionist group. She teaches adults at Cary Senior Center, Jerry's Artarama, Apex Community Center and Wake Technical College. Jillian has studied in Raleigh with Marty Baird and Leslie Pruneau and at the Springmaid Watermedia Workshops with Dr. Harold Gregor.
